Formox AB is a company that belongs to the Perstorp Group, founded in 1881, with headquarters in the small town of the same name in southernmost Sweden.
Perstorp first began producing formaldehyde (HCHO) for its own downstream process back in 1907. As HCHO became an increasingly important raw material for the Group, Perstorp participated in the development of a new, more efficient process – formaldehyde through oxidation of methanol over an iron molybdenum catalyst. The first plant was constructed in 1959, and Formox was born.
Formox has been continuously developing the process, technology and catalysts ever since, and is now the world leader in this field. We have supplied about 100 formalin plants to producers all over the world, and our catalyst is used in these and other HCHO plants with oxide processes.
